CAVING WEEKEND

In the Peak District, nature has created an adventure playground for explorers. Beneath the ground the Giant’s Hole/Oxlow cave system offers a superb round trip through some of the most exciting and demanding cave passages. During our weekend we will be exploring some of these passages. The vertical drops of Oxlow Cavern are a great place to learn the skills of SRT (“Single Rope Technique”) which is ascending and descending vertical sections of the cave, using a rope, harder than it sounds!

As well as caving, during our Peak District weekend we will spend one of the days climbing on the gritstone edges of the high moorlands. This is therefore the ideal weekend for the all round adventurer who wants to try a bit of everything.

During our open caving weekend we will organise caving trips, both half and full days, to explore the caves of the Peak District.  We will make sure you will be caving with people of a similar ability and will make sure every caving trip is an adventure.  Whether you are coming alone or as part of a group we will make sure everyone feels welcome and involved. We stay in the Youth Hostel in Hathersage during the weekend. Hathersage is a vibrant small town with plenty of pubs, cafes to eat in, or self catering is available at the hostel.  If you would prefer to organise your own accommodation you can simply meet us for caving adventures during the day.

The cost for two days of caving is £120 per person (maximum group size of 6, if we have more than six cavers we will break into smaller groups with other instructors). This does not include the cost of the hostel.

Am I fit enough?

Previous climbing and caving experience aren’t essential but a reasonable level of fitness will help you get the most out of the weekend.
